Jan. 22 (UPI) -- Although he couldn't keep the Oakland Raiders from losing its wildcard playoff game this season, Derek Carr recently prevented another loss.

The Raiders quarterback heard about a missing 3-year-old boy on Jan. 14 from the Oakland area. Instead of using his Twitter account for personal promotion, he decided to employ his 253,000 followers to help find Dartanian Brooks, who was abducted on Jan. 13.

Carr, 25, retweeted Lt. Chris Bolton of the Oakland Police Department. Brooks was found just a few hours after going missing.

"So it appears the secret to sharing local missing child info is a RT by your local @NFL QB," Bolton tweeted. "Thank you, @derekcarrqb! Child safely located!"

Brooks was last seen at about 11:45 a.m. Jan. 13 on the 10800 block of MacArthur Boulevard after his mother left him and family friend Tammy Martin in a vehicle while she went into a business. The mother gave Martin permission to drive the vehicle to a nearby store "with the expectation that they would return shortly," according to the police release.

"@OPDChris great news! Thank you for letting me know they are safe! God bless y'all," Carr responded.

Carr's NFL MVP caliber season crashed to an ending when he broke his fibula in late December, after the Raiders had already clinched a playoff spot. He finished the season with 3,937 passing yards, 28 touchdowns, and six interceptions, while posting a 12-3 record as a starter.
