Seven-time Pro Bowl running back Adrian Peterson revealed three teams he'd consider in free agency should he not return to the Minnesota Vikings next season.

Peterson admitted on ESPN's "First Take" on Thursday that he'd like to suit up for the Vikings in 2017, but would join the New York Giants, Houston Texans or Tampa Bay Buccaneers if a deal isn't worked out.

"There's a couple teams out there that I've thought about. ... New York was one of them that popped up, Tampa Bay, lot of different teams. Houston would be a good spot," the 31-year-old Peterson said. "I'll stop right there. ... I'm just throwing random names out there."

Peterson noted those teams as potential landing spots because he views them as having an opportunity to compete for a Super Bowl due to a solid defense, good offensive scheme and great coaching staff.

The Vikings, who have an option on Peterson for the 2017 that includes a $6 million roster bonus on the third day of the league year, likely will request a restructured contract for next season.

Peterson has spent 10 years with Minnesota since being selected with the seventh overall pick of the 2007 draft, highlighted by winning the NFL's MVP award in 2012.

Peterson's 2016 season was torpedoed after he sustained a torn meniscus in his right knee against the rival Green Bay Packers on Sept. 22. He returned three months later but was limited in one game before sitting out the final two of the season.

Peterson finished with 37 carries for 72 yards and no touchdowns in three games.

Peterson led the NFL in rushing in 2015 with 1,485 yards, along with 11 touchdowns. He has 11,747 career rushing yards with 97 touchdowns in 10 seasons -- 16th on the NFL's all-time list. He is 565 yards behind Jim Brown for 10th place.
