Rookie safety Sean Davis of the Pittsburgh Steelers told reporters on Wednesday he was fined approximately $24,000 for his helmet-to-helmet hit on Kansas City Chiefs wide receiver Chris Conley last weekend.

Davis said he plans to appeal the fine for his hit that resulted in an unnecessary roughness penalty in Pittsburgh's 18-16 victory over Kansas City in the divisional-round game.

"I couldn't have done anything different, especially in the red zone," said the 23-year-old Davis, who would be fined a total of $24,309 for the play per NFL rules.

"I'm forced to tackle high. If I tackle low, there's a chance of him falling on top of me into the end zone."

Kansas City scored a few plays later to cut Pittsburgh's lead to 18-16, but a successful 2-point conversation was negated by Eric Fisher's holding penalty.

The Chiefs failed on their next attempt due to Davis' pass breakup in the end zone.

Davis recorded 69 tackles, 1.5 sacks and an interception while playing in all 16 games since being selected in the second round of the 2016 draft.
