GREEN BAY, Wis., Jan. 16 (UPI) -- Aaron Rodgers' improvising skills could be tested again Sunday at the Georgia Dome.

It was hard enough to carry an offense that has failed to garner much success on the ground. But on Sunday he did it without his favorite target, Jordy Nelson.

The Green Bay Packers quarterback completed 28-of-43 passes for 356 yards, two touchdowns, and an interception in Sunday's win against the Dallas Cowboys. But he might need his trustworthy sidekick if he hopes to reach his second Super Bowl.

On Monday, Packers coach Mike McCarthy said that he's "not sure" if Nelson will be able to practice by Wednesday. The 31-year-old wide receiver worked out on Monday, but is dealing with fractured ribs. ESPN's Rob Demovsky reported Sunday that there was a "legitimate hope" that Nelson could return if the Packers advanced to the NFC title game.

The All-Pro told the Milwaukee Journal-Sentinel Monday that there is "no guarantees" that he plays in the contest.

"We're a whole week away." Nelson told the Journal-Sentinel.

Nelson had 97 receptions for 1,257 yards and a league best 14 touchdowns in 2016. He had four catches for 94 yards and a touchdown in the Packers' Week 8 loss to the Falcons. The Packers return to the Georgia Dome for a 3:05 p.m. kickoff Jan. 22 in the NFC Championship.
