With Rex Ryan facing questions about his job security, general manager Doug Whaley declined to give the head coach a vote of confidence.

Ryan's future employment in Buffalo remains the hottest topic as the Bills likely will end their 17th straight season without a playoff appearance. Buffalo has not made the playoffs since 1999 -- the longest active postseason drought in the NFL.

"Let's put it this way: None of us know our future," Whaley told radio station WGR 550 during an interview Friday. "Look where we are. We owe it to our fans and our owners to keep it focused on Miami, because we're still in this."

Whaley said Bills management has been silent about Ryan's status because it wants players to focus on the two remaining regular-season games.

The Bills (7-7) remain mathematically in playoff contention and host the Miami Dolphins (9-5) on Saturday. The Bills must win the last two games and receive significant help to get the second wild card.

"We're focused on the games," Whaley said. "Obviously the speculation is out there that you guys have to talk about and fill content with, but with us, we're all about what's ahead of us, and this week it's Miami and trying to get an invitation to the (playoffs)."

Ryan is in the second year of a five-year deal for his second head-coaching job after being fired by the New York Jets following the 2014 season. The Bills are 15-15 in two seasons under Ryan.

Whaley was asked by the radio station how he feels about the job Ryan has done.

"As that saying says, we are what our record says we are," Whaley said Friday. "We're 7-7, but we're in the hunt. There's times we need to improve our consistency, but there's also areas that we've been very consistent, especially our running game. Obviously we're always as an organization, as a coaching staff, as players, as management, looking to get better, and that's what we're doing."
