CLEVELAND, Sept. 29 (UPI) -- Josh Gordon's return to the NFL hit another snag Thursday, when the wide receiver announced he is entering rehab.

Gordon, 25, is currently serving a four-game suspension for violating the NFL substance abuse policy and was due to return to the Cleveland Browns in four days.

"After careful thought and deep consideration I've decided that I need to step away from pursuing my return to the Browns and my football career to enter an in-patient rehabilitation facility," Gordon said in a statement. "This is the right decision for me and one that I hope will enable me to gain full control of my life and continue on a path to reach my full potential as a person. I appreciate the support of the NFL, NFLPA, the Browns, my teammates, my agent and the community through this extremely challenging process."

Gordon was selected in the second round of the 2012 Supplemental Draft. During his suspension, he was issued an arrest warrant for failing to respond to subpoenas in a paternity case. The warrant was later lifted.

"We support Josh in taking this step to seek additional help and treatment," Executive VP of Football Operations Sashi Brown said in a statement. "His singular focus must be on his own health. We want nothing more than for Josh to be successful personally and professionally and will not comment on his status with the organization at this time."

Gordon has WR1 ability, but hasn't taken an NFL snap since Week 16 of the 2014 season. He hasn't played an entire season since 2013. That season he earned an All-Pro nod after tallying 1,646 receiving yards and nine touchdowns.

I think it's safe to drop Gordon, who has already taken up a spot on your roster for four weeks. Multiple reports out of Cleveland speculate that Gordon's time with the Browns is "likely" over.
