Pro Bowl quarterback Russell Wilson avoided serious injury but might miss the first game of his career with a sprained knee, Seattle Seahawks coach Pete Carroll allowed the day after Wilson limped to the sideline during a Week 3 win over the San Francisco 49ers.

Carroll said on his Monday morning radio show that Wilson was diagnosed with a sprained MCL during an MRI exam. Carroll said it turned out "exceedingly well" after Wilson treated the injury overnight.

Wilson was adamant Sunday night that he avoided a major knee injury and Carroll concurred. Monday, Carroll stopped short of saying Wilson would start Week 4 when the Seahawks visit the New York Jets.

"We're going to do the right thing," Carroll said. "We're going to be very careful."

The Seahawks (2-1) have a bye week after visiting the Jets. With a maligned offensive line dented by injuries, Wilson came out of each of Seattle's home games with significant, if not serious, injuries. He sprained his ankle in Week 1 and played "less than whole" against the Los Angeles Rams in Week 2.

Asked if the Seahawks would consider resting Wilson this week to give him a two-week break, Carroll didn't flinch.

"I think there's obviously consideration for that," Carroll said.

However, Carroll can't deny Wilson has been insistent that he plans to play, as he was in the fourth quarter of Sunday's victory over the San Francisco 49ers, when Trevone Boykin finished up the game at quarterback.

Carroll said Wilson reported Monday to the team facility and "feels great."

Running back Thomas Rawls is not as fortunate and will miss a few weeks with a fibula injury, Carroll said Monday. Rawls was inactive against the 49ers.
