Larry Fitzgerald doesn't plan to retire

PHOENIX, Sept. 12 (UPI) -- Before his Arizona Cardinals fell to the New England Patriots in Sunday Night Football, a report surfaced stating that Larry Fitzgerald expects to retire after the 2016 season.

According to ESPN NFL Insider Adam Schefter, that report is bogus.

"WR Larry Fitzgerald has told people close to him that he expects 2016 to be his last season. Assuming it holds, the HOF awaits," NFL Network National Insider Ian Rapoport reported Sunday.

On Monday morning, Schefter tweeted: "Cardinals fans can relax. Larry Fitzgerald has no plans to retire after this year, per sources. It's why he signed an extension last month."

Fitzgerald, 33, signed a one-year, $11 million extension through 2017 earlier this month. He had eight catches for 81 yards and two touchdowns in Sunday's loss. Fitzgerald's 109 receptions in 2015 were a career high. He also had 1,215 receiving yards and nine touchdowns.
