Jerry Rice: "All lives matter," tells Colin Kaepernick "don't disrespect" flag

SAN FRANCISCO, Aug. 30 (UPI) -- San Francisco 49ers legend Jerry Rice is the latest to chip in on Colin Kaepernick's decision to protest the national anthem at football games.

And he isn't on the quarterback's side.

"All lives matter," Rice tweeted Monday. "So much going on in this world today. Can we all just get along! Colin, I respect your stance but don't disrespect the flag."

Kaepernick made the decision to sit down during the playing of the national anthem at the 49ers' Aug. 26 preseason matchup against the Green Bay Packers. He said he will continue his protests until "there is significant change" and "this country is representing people the way it's supposed to..."

Meanwhile, fellow NFL legend Jim Brown stands behind the quarterback.

"I listened to him and he makes all the sense in the world. He's within his rights and he's telling the truth as he sees it," Brown said Monday on NFL Network. "I am with him 100 percent...Young men in my day really stepped up...These were champions for freedom, equality and justice for all humans beings, and they were educated individuals that used their education and knowledge to represent their case. So now 50 years later we have a young man saying something that was kind of taken for granted in our day. We were way past that. For me it's like going back in time."

During the preseason game, Kaepernick was spotted by cameras, while sitting peacefully on the 49ers bench during the song. Cameras are sure to be locked in on Kaepernick for the remainder of the preseason, and regular season, if he cracks the team's 53-man roster.
