The San Francisco 49ers acquired wide receiver Jeremy Kerley from the Detroit Lions on Monday for offensive lineman Brandon Thomas.

The 5-foot-9, 188-pound Kerley was originally selected in the fifth round of the 2011 draft by the New York Jets. In five seasons with the Jets (2011-15), he played in 74 games (24 starts) and registered 182 receptions for 2,225 yards and nine touchdowns.

Kerley has returned 134 punts for 1,250 yards and one touchdown during his career. In 2015, he registered a career-high 411 punt return yards, which ranked second in the NFL.

The 27-year-old Kerley signed with the Lions on March 21 following his release from the Jets on March 9.

The 6-3, 317-pound Thomas was originally selected by San Francisco in the third round of the 2014 draft. After spending his entire rookie season on the reserve/non-football injury list, the 25-year-old Thomas was inactive for each of the team's 16 games in 2015.

In college, Thomas started 39 games (30 at tackle, nine at guard) at Clemson and earned first team All-ACC honors in 2013 as a senior.
