CLEVELAND, Aug. 25 (UPI) -- Despite finishing 12-4 and going to the AFC Championship in 2012, the New England Patriots somehow ended up with the No. 6 and No. 7 picks in the 2013 NFL Draft.

That became official Thursday, when the Patriots acquired Barkevious Mingo from the Cleveland Browns. ESPN NFL Insider Adam Schefter first reported the news.

The Browns took Mingo with the No. 6 pick in April, 2013. The Arizona Cardinals selected Jonathan Cooper with the next pick and later traded him to the Patriots.. Mingo had five sacks in his rookie season, added two more in 2014, and didn't have any last season.

Patriots center Bryan Stork was traded to Washington Wednesday. Mingo is listed at 6-foot, 4-inches, and 240 pounds. He had 15 sacks and 29 tackles for a loss in three seasons at LSU.

"Barkevious Mingo saw his 5th-year option declined & didn't fit in the new coaching staff," NFL Network Insider Ian Rapoport tweeted.

Mingo started just two games last season in Cleveland. He is due $675,000, with a $1.9 million roster bonus, this season. He is a free agent in 2017.

On Thursday, Browns head of football operations Sashi Brown told Cleveland.com's Mary Kay Cabot that Mingo has a great attitude, but he wanted to see more from him on defense.

"He's working hard and he's showing up on teams,'' Brown told Cabot. "We'd like to see him show up more in the defense but he's working both at the inside linebacker and outside linebacker positions.

"Very positive attitude. Barkevious plays his tail off. If I could take his energy and effort and pour it into every player, we would have a great thing. He's a guy who sets a tone in terms of the effort he lays out there every day and we appreciate that and we have to find a way that both the staff and Barkevious have to find a way to find some productivity for him.''
