FOXBOROUGH, Mass., Aug. 24 (UPI) -- Despite earlier reports that the New England Patriots were cutting center Bryan Stork, he has been traded to Washington.

On Wednesday morning, NFL Network Insider Ian Rapoport reported that the Patriots were releasing Stork.

Rapoport returned to Twitter Wednesday afternoon to say: "Wow. Patriots didn't cut C Bryan Stork after all...they traded him to the Redskins, source said. That was unexpected."

Washington gave the Patriots a conditional round pick for the 25-year-old. Stork started 17 games in two seasons for the Patriots at center and right tackle. He was the No. 105 overall selection in the 2014 NFL Draft. ESPN's Adam Schefter said the condition round pick Stork was traded for his a seventh rounder.

David Andrews is now on track to be the Patriots' starting center. Stork was kicked out of the Patriots' joint practice session earlier this month with the Chicago Bears after fighting a Bears player.

Stork signed a four-year, $2.6 million contract in 2014. He is due $600,000 in 2016. Kory Lichtensteiger is currently listed as the starting center on the Washington depth chart.
