RICHMOND, Va. -- Washington Redskins All-Pro left tackle Trent Williams missed several days of training camp because of knee soreness, but seems to be getting better.

Williams was slowly coming back on the final day of practice Monday at the Richmond training facility, and was seen stretching and doing basic drills. This is good timing, as the team has three preseason games before the regular season begins on Sept.11.

Williams isn't sure whether he can play the first home preseason game against the New York Jets on Friday. But Coach Jay Gruden is confident he will be back soon.

Gruden and Williams' teammates said he is a major asset and a team leader. They call him one of the best players in the league. Tight end Vernon Davis says his teammate is "incredibly athletic," and that he has never seen a player like him.

"We try not to alter the game, but we try to do things that he's good at," Gruden said.

The aim for Williams now will be to get back into football shape, and stay healthy throughout the season.
