BEREA, Ohio --The Cleveland Browns are downplaying rumors quarterback Josh McCown might be traded to the Dallas Cowboys.
"I have no thoughts, whatsoever," coach Hue Jackson said after practice on Thursday "You said it; it's rumor. There is nothing to it as far as we're concerned. I've heard about it, obviously I have, but I feel good that he's here. He's a Cleveland Brown and I know nothing else about the other part of it."
Though Jackson has yet to name a starter, McCown has been working as the second team quarterback. Robert Griffin III continues to work with the first team.
--The Browns are going through a live scrimmage on Friday evening at their training facility in Berea. It means the next day when they practice at Ohio Stadium in Columbus they will conduct a walkthrough. The plan is to conduct it like a regular game with a halftime so the team can learn Jackson's routine.
"We'll do some special teams work first to make sure that those things are taken care of," Jackson said of the scrimmage. "Then we'll probably have some individual, things that we'll do within our team. Then we'll get to the scrimmage a little bit."
Jackson won't say whether the first offense will go against the first defense. He has refrained from doing that in practice to avoid injury.
--Center Cam Erving missed practice on Thursday with an elbow injury but will be fine, Jackson said. Erving was injured Tuesday. The players were off on Wednesday.
--Former Bengals receiver Chad Johnson is no longer with the Browns as a "guest coach." Jackson cleared up the misconception by saying Johnson was never hired.
"Chad is like my son," Jackson said. "Chad was not in the minority coaching program. He came as a guest. I hope we all understand he was just going to be here for a period of time. He was never hired. He's somebody who I know very well who I trust. I have a lot of respect for and he has knowledge. He was able to pass a little bit of that along to our players, but he also has some responsibilities, too. He has some kids. His daughter is a tremendous track athlete. He's always there to cheer her on, and Chad is always the person that's always able to be around me because I know him."
