CHARLOTTE, N.C., July 29 (UPI) -- There might not be anything more dangerous on the football field than a wide-smiling Cam Newton

It appears Newton is ready to return to his 2015 NFL MVP form, before his face frowned after a Super Bowl 50 loss.

The Carolina Panthers kicked off its 2016 campaign at the first day of camp Thursday, but saved its best look for Friday. Newton showed up to do interviews sporting a bleached blonde goatee and a black straw hat.

"I think we're both at a midlife crisis right now," Newton told reporters. "[Thomas Davis] said I was too old to be blonding my beard. I said he was too old to have a Mohawk."

Newton's Instagram feed never lacks an abundance of fashionable styles, including an assortment of colorful hats.

"You don't get this type of team often. Young, good, core guys. That is very powerful," Newton told the team's website.

Newton, 27, completed 296-of-495 passes, for 3,837 yards, 35 touchdowns, and 10 interceptions last season. He ran for another 636 yards and 10 scores in 2015 to lead the 15-1 Panthers to the Super Bowl.
