EAST RUTHERFORD, N.J., July 27 (UPI) -- Ryan Fitzpatrick is back under center for the New York Jets.

After an uncomfortably long 'negotiation,' the 33-year-old quarterback agreed to a one-year, $12 million deal with the team Wednesday. Fitzpatrick passed for a franchise-record 31 touchdowns last season. He also threw for a career-high 3,905 yards.

NFL Network Insider Ian Rapoport first reported the news on Twitter. The deal is fully-guaranteed and Fitzpatrick can pocket an additional $3 million in incentives based on team performance.

ESPN's Ed Werder reported that the Jets and Fitzpatrick had "no recent talks" Wednesday afternoon.

Rapoport reported Tuesday that he did not expect the Jets to re-sign Fitzpatrick before Wednesday's camp. Rapoport then said that talks were "heating up," before announcing the signing.

The Jets initially offered Fitzpatrick a three-year deal for $24 million, but the deal paid the quarterback $12 million in its first year, and averaged $6 million over its final two seasons. He then agreed to take a one-year contract, if it was offered. Several of his teammates, including Darrelle Revis and Brandon Marshall had voiced support for Fitzpatrick while he was in talks with the Jets.
