GREEN BAY, Wis., July 26 (UPI) -- Watch out for the Green Bay Packers this season. Running back Eddie Lacy is in a contract year. Wide receiver Jordy Nelson declared himself "game ready" in June, after tearing his ACL one year ago.
Now Packers coach Mike McCarthy claims that All-Pro quarterback Aaron Rodgers "is in the best shape" that he's "ever seen him."
Rodgers had a 'down' year last season, despite passing for 3,821 yards, 31 touchdowns, and eight interceptions, while completing more than 60 percent of his passes. This season he should have a rejuvenated receiving group and cache of weaponry, including: Nelson, Randall Cobb, Ty Montgomery, and tight end Jared Cook, in addition to returning veterans.
"I would say Aaron's vibe, and really his offseason participation and performance, looks to line up for a great year," McCarthy told ESPN. "He's in great shape. I would say this is the best shape I've seen him in."
Rodgers, 32, didn't play in the Pro Bowl due to offseason knee surgery. He is due $11.5 million, plus $600,000 in per game roster bonuses, this season.
Last week, Bovada listed Rodgers as a 4 to 1 odds favorite to win NFL MVP, ahead of Ben Roethlisberger and 2015 NFL MVP Cam Newton.
Rodgers competed last weekend in the American Century Celebrity Golf Tournament in South Lake Tahoe, California.
