Bills' owner: NFL asking about new stadium plans

Bills owner Terry Pegula was asked about plans to build a new stadium in Buffalo but did not have an immediate answer for the NFL.

"We'll look into that," Pegula told WGR 550. "We're a different market than (Los Angeles), right?"

Western New Yorker Roger Goodell, the NFL commissioner, said the Bills are under pressure to stay current with modern stadiums. But Pegula said political leaders and taxpayers would be involved in any decisions to make changes to Ralph Wilson Stadium, even as pressure mounts from other owners.

"I think they think we need a new stadium, that's where they're coming from," Pegula said. "You listen to that and you make your own judgment. Our stadium is one of the older venues in the league, if not the oldest."

Arrowhead Stadium and Soldier Field are older than Buffalo's structure, which underwent $130 million renovations in 2014. Pegula would not rule out a major overhaul to the existing stadium, with a lease that expires in 2022.

"We're not going to make any hasty decisions," Pegula stressed Wednesday. "We're evaluating."

Moving from Orchard Park is not necessarily under consideration at this time, but Pegula has been a driving force in developing Buffalo's downtown around the NHL stadium, first Niagara Center.
