Johnny Manziel ordered to stay away from firearms, ex-girlfriend

CLEVELAND, May 5 (UPI) -- The biggest danger to Johnny Manziel might be Johnny Manziel, but a court ordered the NFL cast-off to stay away from other forms of harm.

After turning himself in on Wednesday in Dallas and being booked on misdemeanor assault charges for a January incident against ex-girlfriend Colleen Crowley, Manziel was ordered to "have no contact with his former girlfriend and to stay away from firearms," according to CNN.

Manziel, 23, was booked and released from Highland Park jail on $1,500 bond.

"They're the same terms anybody else under similar circumstances would have. Nothing unusual about it at all," Manziel's attorney Bob Hinton told ABC 13.

Crowley alleged that the former Cleveland Browns quarterback threatened her life, restrained her and hit her in the head.

Manziel denied the allegations and a docket hearing for the case is set for June 24. Since spending 73 days in rehab last year, Manziel has been dropped by two agents after refusing to re-enter a treatment program.

The misdemeanor assault charge related to family violence carries a sentence of up to one year in jail and a $4,000 fine.
