LIVERPOOL, England, Jan. 27 (UPI) -- Shakhtar Donetsk forward Alex Teixeira wants to be traded to Liverpool, but his team is asking for more money than it is being offered.

Shakhtar Donetsk coach Mircea Lucescu told FourFourTwo that Teixeira, 26, is worth €50 million and could be a better talent than Angel Di Maria.

"He's worth €50m," Lucescu told FourFourtTwo. "He's incredible, very fast, very good technique. I compare him with other players of the same age who changed [the fortunes of] a club, Angel Di Maria for example at Paris Saint-Germain.

"Teixeira can be at the same level, better even. He doesn't get injured, and every year he gets better and better."

Teixeira scored 22 goals in 15 league games this season.

"Our president knows when it is the time for Teixeira to go. I don't want to keep a player against his desire. He wants to play in a big championship," Lucescu added.

Teixeira was perplexed by the rejected offer for his services.

"The team received one official offer from Liverpool. It was rejected. I don't know why," he told NBC Sports. "It was a great offer. It is frustrating. But the manager and the club president decided against it. So now I am just waiting, trying to be patient.

"Liverpool is a huge club. So many great players have passed through there. It would be an honor to defend the Liverpool shirt.

"I know my agent is still attempting everything possible to help me get to Liverpool. I've played with [Philippe] Coutinho since we were 10 years old. It would be a lot of fun to play with him again."
