"My momma got out of the halfway house," {link:Thomas told KMGH ABC-7's Lionel Bienvenu: "https://twitter.com/lionelbienvenu/status/664580312907816960" target="_blank" title="Thomas to ABC-7"}‏. "She still aint able to travel. I was going to try to get her to this first game but she wont be able to make it. So we are working on something else. There are a certain amount of days until she can travel. Besides that, its good to have her out finally."

Smith, who was commuted by President Barack Obama, along with 45 others convicted on non-violent drug offenses, went to jail when Thomas was 12-years-old.

Thomas' grandma also went to prison with his mother for narcotics trafficking. Smith was due for release in 2017 while his grandmother remains in prison.

"Hopefully it will be here," Thomas told Bienvenu. "I know it will be emotional. I ll probably break down and start crying. She probably will too because it will be her first time even on a plane...and first time in Denver. It'll be a little emotional, but ill be very excited."

Thomas told reporters that Smith could not travel for 60 days.
