NEW YORK, June 9 (UPI) -- The last time we saw David Wilson he was dripping tears as he announced his retirement from the NFL, ending his career with the New York Giants at 23-years-old.

But with the ending of one dream, comes the start of another. Wilson is competing weekend in the Adidas Gran Prix and could grab a 2016 Olympic Bid, according to NFL.com.

Wilson retired in August due to a serious neck injury. He has previously said he is training in Orlando for the triple jump to compete in the 2016 Summer Olympics, according to the New York Post.

Wilson was a national champion in high school in the triple jump and placed sixth in 2011 in the triple jump at the NCAA Championships, according to Yahoo! Sports.

"In college, I was an All-American, guys who placed first and second in the Olympics, I was [sixth after them] in college," Wilson told the New York Post in November "All their life they've been focused on track, I was an All-American focused on football. I feel like if I focus on just track, [I can do it]."
