OAKLAND, Calif., April 17 (UPI) -- He's approaching the age of running back extinction and carrying an anvil weighted salary, still several teams are rumored to be after Adrian Peterson.

"I asked two general managers about Peterson's return, and they told me they believe three teams are in play for him: the Cowboys, the Cardinals and the Raiders," wrote Bleacher Report's Mike Freeman.

The Raiders have a stable of Trent Richardson, Roy Helu, and Latavius Murray. ESPN's Bill Williamson wrote that there are probably better fits for the 30-year-old running back, but he sees why they are a possibility.

Bill Musgrave, the former Minnesota Vikings offensive coordinator, is the current OC for the Riaders. In 2012, Peterson piled up 2,097 rushing yards under Musgrave.

Peterson has a salary cap number of $15.4 million in 2015. The Raiders have almost $20 million in cap space.

Peterson signed a seven-year, $96 million contract with $36 million guaranteed in 2011. He is due to make $14.75 million in 2016 and $16.75 million in 2017, before free agency in 2018.

Peterson was removed from the NFL's exempt/commissioner's list Thursday but must continue counseling and treatment.

Former NFL general manager and ESPN analyst Mark Dominik said he believes Peterson is worth a first round pick and a couple second round picks in trade value.

Peterson played in just one game last season before being arrested on child abuse charges.
