HOUSTON, March 2 (UPI) -- After learning he would have a reduced role next season, Andre Johnson requested to be traded or released from the Houston Texans, according to John McClain.
Johnson signed a seven-year, $62.7 million contract, with $48 million guaranteed, in 2010. He is scheduled to make $10.5 million this season and $11 million next season before free agency in 2017.
The seven-time Pro Bowler and two-time First-Team All-Pro selection has caught 1,012 receptions for 13,597 yards, and 64 touchdowns in 12 seasons with the Texans.
Johnson, 33, was selected third overall in the first round of the 2003 NFL Draft. Last season his 62.4 receiving yards per game were his fewest since 2005.
Texans gave Andre Johnson permission to seek a trade. Told him he'd have a reduced role next season. He asked to be traded or cut instead.
