Dallas Cowboys' Murray on track for free agency

By Alex Butler

DALLAS, March 2 (UPI) -- All-Pro running back DeMarco Murray appears to have run through the end zone and into the open market. On Monday, the Cowboys placed the franchise tag on Dez Bryant, paving the way for a free agent fistfight between teams that could include the Indianapolis Colts, Arizona Cardinals, Jacksonville Jaguars, and Seattle Seahawks, according to NFL Network Insider Ian Rapoport.

"[Murray] is probably going to, you know, get some peace and see what's out in the market and then we'll talk and see," Cowboys Vice President Stephen Jones told Fox Sports. "I do believe deep down he'd love to stay in Dallas."

"We've had some really good football players go into free agency: Jay Novacek and Darren Woodson and, you know, they still sign with the Cowboys. So, just because you're a free agent doesn't mean you're not necessarily going to end up back in Dallas."

Murray, 27, led the NLF with 1,845 yards rushing yards last season. Bryant will play this season on a $12.823 million salary while still looking for a long-term deal, according to ESPN.

Bryant had 88 receptions, 1,320 receiving yards and 16 touchdowns last season. Murray played for a $1,406,000 salary in the final year of his rookie contract.
