The Los Angeles Lakers hired Miles Simon as an assistant coach, general manager Rob Pelinka announced Tuesday.

Simon has been serving as a prep coach with USA Basketball, guiding the U.S. Junior National Select Team over the World Select Team at the recent Nike Hoops Summit.

The former University of Arizona standout also has been an assistant coach for the gold medal-winning national teams at various age levels in 2015 and 2016.

Simon, who also has worked as a college basketball analyst at ESPN, was an assistant coach for three seasons at Arizona under Lute Olson. He led the Wildcats to the national championship in 1997 as a junior.
