Golden State Warriors forward Matt Barnes pleaded guilty Tuesday to disorderly conduct stemming from an incident at a New York nightclub but avoided jail time.

Barnes was ordered to perform 10 days of community service and was allowed to complete the work in California. He has until his next hearing date on Aug. 29 to perform the community service.

"Mr. Barnes was cleared of criminal wrongdoing and has agreed to accept responsibility for the violation," Barnes' attorney, Alex Spiro, told USA TODAY Sports. "He readily welcomed the opportunity to give his time to juvenile justice issues in California."

The charges stem from an incident in the early hours of Dec. 5 when Barnes was a member of the Sacramento Kings.

Barnes and then-Kings star DeMarcus Cousins were part of the incident in the nightclub. Video footage attained by police appeared to show Barnes as the assailant.

Three people were assaulted in the incident. Two women reported being choked by Barnes and a man was sucker-punched when he rushed to the aid of one of the women.

Cousins was accused of delivering the punch but was recently cleared of wrongdoing by police.

A civil suit has been filed against Barnes and Cousins by plaintiffs Jasmine Besiso and Myrone Powell.
