May 16 (UPI) -- NBA MVP frontrunner Russell Westbrook welcomed his first child Tuesday.

The Oklahoma City Thunder guard and wife Nina named the little boy Noah Russell Westbrook.

Westbrook, 28, himself is a third-generation of his namesake, so it was an interesting choice for him not to have his son go by Russell Westbrook IV.

Nina and Russell were married in 2015. They met at UCLA. Nina played for the Bruins' women's team while Westbrook starred for the men's squad.

Noah weighed in at seven pounds and five ounces. He is 20 inches long.

On Sunday, Westbrook celebrated Mother's Day by paying homage to his own mom.

"Happy Mothers Day To my lovely momma," Westbrook wrote on social media. "You're the best mom a son like me could ask for, I'm truly blessed to have you as a role model in my life. Can't thank you enough for sacrificing each and everyday to make sure our family was put first. LOVE YOU MOMMA! #happymothersday #bestmom."

He also recently posted about his brother getting his Masters Degree from Oklahoma University.

ESPN reported in March that Westbrook has a small circle, including his mother Shannon, father Russell Westbrook Jr., Nina and his brother, Ray. He calls his parents before his games during the basketball season.

Westbrook announced that Nina was pregnant on March 1. "The Brodie" is a six-time All-Star and has been named to the All-NBA squad five times.
