Dirk Nowitzki sports '90s threads during spring cleaning

May 11 (UPI) -- At some point in his career, this was an acceptable outfit. But Dirk Nowitzki likely knows the answer to the fashion question he asked Wednesday on Twitter.

The Dallas Mavericks All-Star and future Hall of Famer said he was doing some cleaning when he discovered an old outfit. He decided to put on the large beige pleated turtleneck-sweater and some extra baggy jeans and ask his Twitter following what he should do with the outdated apparel.

"Spring closet cleaning. Keep or no? #oldschool #classof98," Nowitzki wrote in the caption for the photo.

He had many Twitter responses, more than 12,400 retweets and 35,000 likes, Many of the haters said that he should give the outfit to Tim Duncan or Drake. Several polls posted in the responses revealed that most people wanted him to keep the outfit.

For perspective purposes: Nowitzki entered the NBA the same year that the Furby, Dawson's Creek and Viagra hit the market.

Nowtizki, 38, says he plans to return for his 20th pro season in 2017. The 13-time All-Star was the 2006 NBA MVP and won the 2011 NBA Finals against LeBron James and the Miami Heat.

The seven-foot German baller with an untouchable midrange game even says that he could come back for another season after 2017, meaning he could play into his 40s. He averaged 14.2 points per game this season, the second lowest mark of his career. He also posted 6.5 rebounds per bout for the Mavericks.

Nowitzki has a team option for $25 million next season. He made the same amount in 2016. He turns 39 on June 19.

The Milwaukee Bucks originally drafted Nowitzki with the No. 9 pick in the 1998 NBA Draft. He was subsequently traded, with Pat Garritty, to the Mavericks in exchange for Robert Traylor. Neither of those players ever came close to an All-Star nod.
