New York Knicks center Joakim Noah underwent surgery on his right shoulder to repair his rotator cuff, the team announced Thursday morning.

The Knicks did not establish a timetable for his return, but coach Jeff Hornacek said the rehab process is five months.

Dr. David Altchek performed the procedure at the Hospital for Special Surgery in Manhattan, the team said.

Noah averaged just 5.0 points and 8.7 rebounds in 46 games this season in the first campaign of a four-year, $72 million contract.

The 32-year-old's injury-plagued season ended with him sitting out the first eight contests of his 20-game suspension for violating the terms of the NBA's anti-drug policy.
