The Brooklyn Nets waived veteran forward Luis Scola on Monday.

The 36-year-old Scola, who signed as a free agent with the Nets on July 13, 2016, appeared in 36 games for Brooklyn this season, averaging 5.1 points and 3.9 rebounds in 12.8 minutes per contest.

The Nets felt that Scola "deserved the opportunity to contribute to a playoff contender," general manager Sean Marks said Monday.

In 743 career NBA games with the Nets, Toronto Raptors, Indiana Pacers, Phoenix Suns and Houston Rockets, the 10-year NBA veteran is averaging 12.0 points, 6.7 rebounds, 1.6 assists and 25.6 minutes.

The 6-foot-9, 241-pound Scola won an Olympic gold medal with Argentina in 2004.
