Sacramento Kings forward Rudy Gay will undergo surgery to repair a ruptured left Achilles tendon on Monday, the team announced Sunday.

The procedure will be performed at the Hospital for Special Surgery in New York by Dr. Martin O'Malley.

Gay suffered the injury during the third quarter of Wednesday night's game against the Indiana Pacers.

Gay will miss the rest of the season and his time with the Kings is likely over.

The 30-year-old Gay's contract runs through the 2017-18 season, but it has a player option after this season. The Sacramento Bee reported that Gay is expected to exercise that option and sign with another team after this season. He is being paid $13.3 million this season, with a $14.7 million player option for next season.

Gay came to the Kings in a trade with the Toronto Raptors in December 2013. He averaged 18.7 points and 6.3 rebounds in 30 games this season, all as a starter.
