D'Angelo Russell throws phone in water, gives Ben Simmons advice in Foot Locker ad

By Alex Butler

NEW YORK, June 21 (UPI) -- As the NBA Draft approaches, presumptive No. 1 pick Ben Simmons will be faced with relentless distractions.

In Foot Locker's newest commercial, he is all-ears for advice from second-year talents D'Angelo Russell, Karl-Anthony Towns, and Devin Booker.

In the commercial, Simmons asks: "so any advice now that I've been drafted?"

After Towns and Booker tell Simmons he needs to keep putting in work because "nothing comes easy anymore," Simmons turns to Russell.

Russell asks Simmons if he has a phone. Simmons hands it over, before Russell turns and chucks it out the window and into a body of water. The Los Angeles Lakers guard then says: "Trust me."

Russell's advice could be sound for the LSU forward. The advice is obviously in relation to Russell's phone recording incident of teammate Nick Young. The leaked video referred to when Russell filmed Young talking about being with other women and cheating on his fiancee, recording artist Iggy Azalea. After the incident, reports surfaced that his Lakers teammates lost trust in him on and off of the court.

Russell later apologized to his Lakers teammates and said the recording was not done to intentionally hurt anyone.

The commercial will air nationally on ESPN during the 2016 NBA Draft broadcast. A second ad-spot features Simmons conversing with a papier-mâché version of Towns.

Simmons is expected to be selected first by the Philadelphia 76ers. Duke's Brandon Ingram is projected as the No. 2 selection, by the Lakers. The draft is set for 7 p.m. Thursday.
