Houston Rockets' Dwight Howard sinks deep trick shot

By Alex Butler

HOUSTON, Jan. 18 (UPI) -- Maybe Houston Rockets center Dwight Howard should start shooting free throws from the opposing stripe.

On Sunday, the Rockets tweeted a video of Howard draining an improbable shot. On the shot, Howard stands at the opposing free throw line in the practice gym with his back to the basket. Howard heaves the basketball blindly, over his head, toward the opposing goal and watches the long arching shot fly straight into the net.

Howard has a 57 percent career free throw percentage. His trick shot was attempted at least 75 feet from the rim, while a free throw is shot about 15 feet from the basket.

This season, Howard is averaging 14.2 points and 12 rebounds per game. Howard is making $22,359,364 this season and has a player option next season of $23,282,457.

The 30-year-old is an eight-time All-Star and three-time defensive player of the year, but hasn't been selected as an All-Star since the 2013-2014 season. Howard's 14.2 points per game are his lowest since his rookie year in 2004 for the Orlando Magic.
