NEW YORK, Dec. 30 (UPI) -- Four-to-six people wearing ski masks robbed and shot New York Knicks forward Cleanthony Early Wednesday morning in a Queens strip club.
Early, 24, was shot in the knee during the incident, which occurred at 4:40 a.m., according to PIX 11.
"We are aware of what occurred with Cleanthony Early this morning and are relieved that he is not in a life-threatening situation," the Knicks said in a statement. "We will not comment any further until we receive more information."
Early has averaged 0.7 points and 3.4 minutes in 10 games this season.
A woman who was with Early was "not hurt in the attack," according to Samantha Tata and Anthony DiLorenzo of PIX 11.
Early was taken to Elmhurst Hospital and is in stable condition, according to Thomas Tracy, Rocco Parascandola and Dan Good of the New York Daily News.
The shooting occurred after Early left CityScapes gentlemen's club with his girlfriend. The couple was surrounded while sitting in an Uber car, when "three cars boxed in the vehicle," according to the New York Daily News.
The men, two of them armed, approached the car and pulled Early out of the back seat before "holding him up with a semi-automatic pistol," the Daily News reported.
