LOS ANGELES, May 22 (UPI) -- Before Kobe Bryant said that next season would be his last with the Los Angeles Lakers, the team's GM announced that he is willing to trade away its future.

Lakers general manager Mitch Kupchak said "it's an option" when asked by Sean Deveny if the team would be open to trading the pick, according to the Sporting News.

The Lakers found out it would be picking second in the upcoming NBA Draft during Tuesday's 2015 NBA Draft lottery. The team had the fourth best odds at winning the draft slot. Most experts say that Kentucky's Karl Anthony-Towns or Duke's Jahlil Okafor are the two best prospects in the draft.

Bryant, 36, is due to make $25 million next season. On the night of the lottery, Bryant tweeted his reaction by saying "We played like crap all season so it's only right we get the #2 pick HA #lakerluck #goodday."

On Wednesday Bryant told SXsports: "Don't mess it up. Don't pick a player that sucks."
