Kevin Durant to have season-ending foot surgery

By Alex Butler

OKLAHOMA CITY, March 28 (UPI) -- The reigning NBA MVP won't be raining treys anytime soon. Just a week after Oklahoma City Thunder General Manager Sam Presti announced that Kevin Durant would be "out indefinitely" with a right foot injury, Presti proclaimed his star was downed for the season, according to ESPN.

Durant will have bone graft surgery on his right foot and is expected to miss four to six months.

"With the focus of this process being aimed entirely on Kevin's long-term health and stability, it was the consensus of the specialists team, in addition to a collective decision by Kevin, his representation and the Thunder, that to address the setback of the fracture site, a bone graft procedure would be the most proactive and recommended approach," Presti said in a statement to ESPN. "The bone graft is the standard procedure for the five to eight percent of Jones fracture surgeries that do not initially have success or experience setbacks sometime within the recovery period."

Durant had surgery in October and again on Feb. 23. Durant averaged 25.4 points, 6.6 rebounds and 4.1 assists in 27 games this season.

The Thunder (41-31) are hanging on to the No. 8 spot in the western conference over New Orleans and Phoenix.
