Miami Marlins' Giancarlo Stanton gets beer shower after mashing 43rd homer

By Alex Butler

Aug. 15 (UPI) -- Giancarlo Stanton hit his league-leading 43rd home run of the season Monday and was rewarded with a beer shower from the Miami Marlins.

The Marlins beat the San Francisco Giants 8-3 at Marlins Park in Miami. Stanton's home run came in the first inning of the contest off of Giants lefty Ty Blach.

"Yeah, it's something special," Stanton told reporters after the game, according to MLB.com. "When you're one hit or one homer away from a record, you don't want to let it linger because then every at-bat is, you're going to do it, you're going to do it. Luckily, I got it out of the way right away. It put us on top and we were able to finish."

His 43rd homer passed the franchise record, set by Gary Sheffield in 1996. He now has 22 home runs in 34 games. Stanton hit No. 42 on Sunday. That long ball was also No. 250 for his career.

After Monday's game, Stanton posted a video from the team bathroom. He was sitting in a shopping cart and getting showered with beers.

The slugger was covered in foam.

Stanton also cleared waivers on Tuesday, meaning the Marlins could potentially trade him to any team. He leads New York Yankees slugger Aaron Judge by seven home runs. He is currently projected to hit 60 long balls.
