The Texas Rangers activated left-hander Cole Hamels from the 10-day disabled list ahead of Monday night's start against the Cleveland Indians.

To make room on the roster, the Rangers optioned infielder/outfielder Drew Robinson to Triple-A Round Rock.

Hamels, 33, has been out for eight weeks with a right oblique muscle strain. He was placed on the disabled list on May 3 (retroactive to April 30) after sustaining the injury while warming up for his start on May 2 at Houston. He was 1-0 with a 1.04 ERA in a pair of rehab starts with Double-A Frisco.

Hamels is 2-0 with a 3.03 ERA over 32 2/3 innings in five starts with Texas this season.

Robinson is 2-for-6 (.333) with a home run and one RBI in two games over three stints with the Rangers this season. He had his first two major league hits, a home run and double, in a start at second base on Sunday at Yankee Stadium in the Rangers' 7-6 win.

The Rangers also announced infielder Joey Gallo had his sore left hamstring examined by their assistant team physician, Dr. Shane Seroyer, on Sunday in Arlington. The exam determined no structural damage.

Gallo received an injection and rejoined the Rangers in Cleveland, and he will be in the lineup for Monday night's game.
