Tebow hit .222 in 63 games for the Fireflies.

"His recent last three weeks are actually trending pretty well," Mets general manager Sandy Alderson told the team website. "Given all the other circumstances, age and so forth, we thought this was the right time to promote him."

The 2007 Heisman Trophy winner signed with the Mets in September. He played his first game in April.

"I'm thankful for all of the opportunities from the Mets," Tebow said at his press conference Sunday. "The opportunity to come here and everything that the Fireflies did and their fans and the support. Everybody here in the state of South Carolina has been super supportive and everywhere we've traveled through the South Atlantic League has been great. [Fireflies president] John Katz and had a lot of fun. This next opportunity, ill try to have a lot of fun as well."

We wish Tim the best as he continues his journey to Citi Field."
