Oakland Athletics replace shattered phone for fan after home run

By Alex Butler

May 17 (UPI) -- Peter Johnson says that Ryon Healy's home run Tuesday landed on his iPhone and shattered the screen. Now the Oakland Athletics are buying him a new phone.

Johnson tweeted about the broken phone Tuesday, saying: "Athletics can you guys please buy me a new phone your 2 run shot broke mine."

The Seattle Mariners were leading the game 1-0 in the top of the second inning before Healy stepped to the plate. Chase De Jong threw a 3-1 pitch to the infielder. Healy hacked at the pitch, sending it nearly 450 feet to left field for a two-run home run.

Fans are seen scattering for the ball on the instant replay and Johnson is noticeable in his red shirt.

The Athletics won the game 9-6 at Safeco Field. The series resumed Wednesday night.

"Well, it looks like we owe you one. DM us your email and address," the Athletics responded.

"My phone got hit by an Oakland Athletic home run ball and broke it," Johnson said in a Twitter video for the Athletics.

Johnson is likely a Mariners fan, as he was wearing a Washington State shirt at the game.

Healy has seven home runs and 16 RBI this season. The Athletics also got home runs from Mark Canha and Matt Joyce in the win.
