Second baseman Dustin Pedroia of the Boston Red Sox is considered "day to day" by the team after sitting out the last two games because of left knee and ankle injuries.

Pedroia was expected to undergo an MRI exam and was seen by team doctors at Massachusetts General Hospital on Monday, but Boston did not offer more than the quick response in regard to his health.

The four-time All-Star was forced to leave Friday's game in the eighth inning against the Baltimore Orioles when he was spiked on the left calf by Manny Machado.

The 33-year-old Pedroia still has swelling in the knee and ankle.

Pedroia is batting .258 with five RBIs in 16 games this season for the Red Sox (11-8), who host the opener of a three-game series against the New York Yankees on Tuesday.
