MINNEAPOLIS -- Detroit Tigers outfielder JaCoby Jones was placed on the disabled list with a left lip laceration after being hit in the face by a pitch from Minnesota Twins reliever Justin Haley during Saturday's game.

Jones suffered a split lip that needed nine stitches, but he avoided any further damage. Jones left the game with his mouth bleeding. He was taken to a hospital and underwent a CT scan.

"Everything feels normal," Jones told the Detroit News. "My teeth are sore. Other than that, it just feels like I got punched in the face."

The Tigers selected the contract of outfielder Jim Adduci from Triple-A Toledo prior to Sunday's finale in Minnesota. Adduci, 31, was signed by the team in the offseason after playing in Korea. He was hitting .349 for Toledo with a home run and three RBIs.

Adduci, who last played in the majors in 2014 with Texas, was in the lineup Sunday in right field.

Jones took a 90-mph fastball to the side of his face and then he ran down the third-base line, gesturing immediately to the dugout. Jones stopped around the third base coach's box and went down to his knees before trainers brought towels to put on his face.

"It was nasty," Detroit manager Brad Ausmus said after Saturday's game. "I don't get squeamish very much. That made me a little squeamish. It wasn't even blood. It was probably a half-inch long cut and you could see the meat inside. ... I don't even know. It might have been split all the way through. That's how deep it was."

Jones was 0-for-1 on Saturday and is hitting .150 with one homer and four RBIs in 16 games.

The Tigers are also without first baseman Miguel Cabrera, shortstop Jose Iglesias and outfielder J.D. Martinez. Cabrera was placed on the disabled list Saturday with a right groin strain. Iglesias went on the seven-day concussion disabled list on Friday. Martinez has been out all season with a foot injury.
