BALTIMORE -- Boston Red Sox second baseman Dustin Pedroia (knee, ankle) was out of the lineup for the second consecutive game against the Baltimore Orioles on Sunday.

Pedroia was forced to leave Friday's game in the eighth inning against the Orioles when he was spiked in the left calf by Manny Machado. Pedroia still has swelling in both the knee and ankle. He is expected to undergo an MRI exam on Monday in Boston.

"There was legitimate concern the moment it took place," manager John Farrell said prior to Sunday's game. "The fact that he still has the symptoms he does, we're going to rule everything out. HIs importance to us speaks for itself. With any of our players you get into a situation like this you give it 24-to-48-hour period to see how it responds. At this point it warrants a further look."
