Tebow demolishes 3-run home run, closes in on Jordan

April 10 (UPI) -- He's no longer on pace for 140 home runs, but Tim Tebow hit his second in three games Sunday at Spirit Communications Park in Columbia, S.C.

The 2007 Heisman Trophy winner didn't wait to work up the count this time. Tebow stepped to the plate in the bottom of the fifth inning with his Columbia Fireflies ahead of the Augusta GreenJackets 3-0.

He hacked at the first offering from Jose Morel, sending it over the right-field fence. The home run plated three scores for the Fireflies, increasing its lead to 6-0.

The pulled long ball looked quite different than Tebow's opposite field shot Thursday in his first at bat for the Class A New York Mets squad. On that offering, Tebow took Domenic Mazza deep with a hack that barely cleared the left-field wall.

Tebow finished 1-for-3 at the dish Sunday. He also had a walk and scored a run.

The former Florida Gators gunslinger's home run heroics could soon land him in rare air in the conversation of best multiple sport pro athletes. While nobody could touch Michael Jordan on the basketball court, Tebow is now just one long ball away from matching 'His Airness' in the home run department. Jordan hit three over the fence for the 1994 Birmingham Barons.

Tebow was 4-for-27, with eight strikeouts and a walk, during his stint with the Mets at spring training.
