March 27 (UPI) -- Tim Tebow was no match for two-time Cy Young Award winner Max Scherzer Monday at First Date Field in Port St. Lucie.

Their first encounter lasted a mere 25 seconds. The New York Mets outfielder was fanned by one 96 mph fastball, followed by two 97 mph offerings from the Washington Nationals star. After his first swing and a miss, Tebow watched pitch No. 2 fly by. He gave another empty hack at the third pitch. Scherzer struck out Tebow again later in the game on four pitches.

Tebow was 0-for-4 at the plate with three strikeouts as the Nationals beat the Mets 6-0.
