Feb. 16 (UPI) -- Joe Maddon's Chicago Cubs clubhouse promotes perennial pranking.

The chief prank artist, other than the manager, is third baseman Kris Bryant. But Bryant was on the other end of the stunt recently, when Red Bull and Hall of Fame pitcher Greg Maddux teamed up to prank the National League MVP.

Bryant was doing a normal workout in a batting cage at the College of Southern Nevada. Behind him was the 'sound guy' carrying a boom stick and disguised in long hair, a mustache, and a goatee.

Bryant took about 40 swings off of the tee while the sound guy, also known as Greg Maddux, watched on.

College of Southern Nevada assistant baseball coach Sean Larrimer was serving as the batting practice pitcher before he had to leave. Bryant was about to pack it in when the sound guy asked if he could throw a few pitches. A hesitant Bryant finally agreed, on the condition that the sound guy didn't hit him with pitches. Bryant quickly learned that the sound guy had a heck of a curveball.

"Even if I hit you, it won't hurt," Maddux told Bryant.

"Don't hit me," Bryant said.

He then learned that the sound guy had a gun for an arm.

"This sound guy's got a good curveball. What is this," Bryant said.

"Not too bad actually," Bryant said. "He might be better than the other guy. I seriously doubted you. He's throwing curveballs! OK, I'm going to take it seriously."

The sound guy oddly asked for Bryant's bat during the exchange, and Bryant said maybe.

At the end of the stunt, Maddux walked over and told Bryant to sign it over to Greg Maddux.

A shocked Bryant flipped his bat to the air and said he knew something was up.

Last year, Bryant pranked a community college team into thinking he was a new and very talented transfer.

Bryant was married last month in Las Vegas. He had 39 home runs and 102 RBI while hitting .292 last season for the World Series champion Cubs.
