Tampa Bay Rays snag veteran OF Rickie Weeks

Feb. 4 (UPI) -- Rickie Weeks turns 35-years-old in September, but he'll start the baseball season with an invite to spring training and a minor-league contract.

Weeks agreed to the deal Friday, according to Marc Topkin of the Tampa Bay Times. He hit .239 with nine home runs and 27 RBI in 108 games last season for the Arizona Diamondbacks. After spending the first 11 years of his career with the Milwaukee Brewers, the 2011 All-Star joined the Seattle Mariners in 2015. He signed last February as a free agent with the Diamondbacks.

Although he started his career as a second baseman, Weeks hasn't played in that spot since 2014. He'll add some outfield depth to the Rays' cast of Kevin Kiermaier, Colby Rasmus, and Steven Souza. Weeks was the No. 2 pick in the 2003 Amateur Draft.
