Texas Rangers sign James Loney to minor league pact

Jan. 21 (UPI) -- James Loney, who was traded last May, earned a spring training invite Friday.

The first baseman hit .265 with nine home runs and 34 RBI in 100 games for the New York Mets last season. He is a career .284 hitter with 108 career long balls.

The Texas Rangers added the 11-year veteran, who will make $1 million if he cracks the big league roster, according to FanRag Sports.

Loney was released in April by the Tampa Bay Rays. He was signed by the Mets to fill in for the injured Lucas Duda.
