Jan. 18 (UPI) -- Free agent Trevor Plouffe originally singed a one-year contract with the Oakland Athletics on Jan. 10.

On Wednesday, the team finalized the $5.25 million pact with the infielder, according to multiple sources. FOX Sports' Ken Rosenthal was the first to report the original deal, before its terms were disclosed.

Plouffe, 30, hit .260, with 12 home runs and 47 RBI last season for the Minnesota Twins. He was later sent to the disabled list with a strained left oblique, before being sent outright to Triple-A Rochester. He was set to make more than $8 million in his third year of arbitration, before the Twins decided to non-tender him.

The Boston Red Sox, Atlanta Braves, and Kansas City Royals also showed interest in Plouffe. He'll likely see most of his time at third base for the Athletics. Plouffe can earn $150,000 for 350 plate appearances and $300,000 each for 450 and 525 plate appearances, according to MLB.com.

Plouffe owns a career .247 batting average, with 96 home runs in 723 contests. The Athletics designated right-handed pitcher Zach Neal for assignment to make room for the move. Plouffe played the first seven years of his career with the Twins.
